One, Two, A Shoe Redo~*

See what I did with the post title there?  *Giggle-snort*

Anyway...

I got this pair of flatforms on sale {great deal-- gojane.com -- best shoe place ever}.  I bought them because I liked the general shape & the price was incredible {under $15.00, I mean, come on}.  The glitter, however...so not me.

I had intended to cover the wedge/flatform part of the shoe with spray glue & fabric a la some DIYs I had seen on a couple of other blogs-- but then I had a change of heart.  I had gotten the beige colored upper instead of the other colors offered because it was a neutral.  Adding patterned fabric would sort of defeat the neutral purpose-- even if it was in a beige-y color palette.  After a little thought, I decided to go with paint {sealed with mod podge} & a lace embellishment-- simple & versatile.

It took 4 or 5 coats of raw umber to cover the wedge.  I really worked the paint in to assure maximum coverage, & let it dry an hour between coats.  Nothing tricky or fancy, it just took time~*

The finished product had a corky feel to it, which I liked.  Two coats of Mod Podge matte to seal & these babies are foot ready.

Now for the lace.  I used a basic spool trim lace, hot glue to get it started & heavy duty glue to finish.  I started the lace at the instep portion of the shoe {the part of shoe that curves between your toes & ankle}.  Its a good, hidden location.  I put a dot of hot glue to get it started, then laid down a heavy bead of transparent heavy-duty glue, pressed in the lace with the handle of my brush, & worked my way around the shoe.  I then used the brush to add glue on the edges of the lace, eliminating any loose flaps that could catch on things.

The brush, sadly, did not survive the glue....another casualty of crafting.
To finish, I simply folded a tiny edge over to prevent fraying & overlapped the starting point just a bit.  Extra heavy amount of glue here, for obvious reasons.

Cute eh?

I had intended to do a fashion post {I've gotten some great things from local & online shops & two gorgeous necklaces I'm dying to show off}...but that was before I got hi-vee from the i-vee {I'm on a roll today}.  Figured my current splotchy state wouldn't do the clothes or shoes justice, so you'll just have to wait {I know, its hard lol *scratches ferociously* but trust me, its worth it...not to see me in the shoes, but to not see me itchy}

Aren't redos the best?

Monday's Motivations, Olympic Edition~*

We spent the weekend parked in front of the TV watching the Olympics.

So awesome & inspiring.

What better way could there be to start off the week then with some words of wisdom from a few Olympic greats?

The first quote is for Thing 3 {my soccer starlet} & the last is or Thing 2 {yellow yams, my boy, yellow yams}

Whatever you do this week, do it with gusto & go for the gold~*

One of Those Weeks...

Its been one of those weeks...

I've caught a nasty cold.  Thing 3 broke her toe.  The cat got in poison ivy, then got on the hubs & I {we are both itchy, & I'm allergic, so I'm also hive-y...which is lovely}.  We had a massive rainstorm that flooded our basement.  My parents had a pipe burst which damaged their ceiling.  Thing 1 has had a really hard time as of late {but she is strong & will persevere}.

I'm so ready for the weekend & a fresh start~*

Speaking of fresh starts...

I picked up this sweet little square frame on a thrifting adventure a while back.  I'm not too in to gold, but I do like the look of silver leaf, so I thought I'd give it a whirl.  Leaf itself isn't too expensive, but paint is cheaper & cheap is the whole point in thrifting after all.

Here's a tip: silver paint doesn't look silver, it looks gray.  Metallic pearl white, however, looks silver...go figure.

Just brush on a thin coat of metallic, let dry, then gently rub with fine grit sandpaper.  If you want to get really fancy, you can chip at the paint with a putty knife or distress with steel wool.  Because the frame was so tiny, there wasn't any need to get too elaborate.  Print up a pic to frame, & there you go-- quick & easy, just the way I like 'em~*

The flowers are one of the million reasons I love my husband.  That, and the Advil Cold & Sinus that came with them.

Here's to a rest & recovery weekend for all~*

Catching My Breath

I'm taking a minute to catch my breath, but I'll be back tomorrow with a full post on all our comings & goings!
BTW  Thing 3 really appreciated all your well wishes-- she's doing fine, all things considered, & is hopeful that she'll be able to catch the tail end of the soccer season!

X Rays on Tuesdays

Welp, Thing 3 may have broken her foot...or perchance just her toe.  Either way, we are spending thisfine morn at the doc's office.  I am waiting whilst the x rays are taken, crossing my fingers its not as bad as it could be... Thing 3 takes after me, and I shudder to think what life would be like if she had to sit still for more than 10 minutes...

*UPDATE: It is fractured.  Sigh.

**UPDATE to the UPDATE:  Thank you so much for your kind comments!  The patient is doing well, though bummed that soccer practice is out of the question for the next few weeks.

Monday's Motivations

I has cold...
It is making my mind fuzzy.  I'm a horrible sick person-- lots of self pity in the first, followed by a grim resolution to persevere with a tiny bit of self-martyrdom thrown in for good measure.
In other words, you don't want to know me when I'm sick.
Fortunately I am married to the best man ever, who buys me ice cream & makes me tea & nods charitably when I complain~*
Today will find me here, mostly.

Curled up with Poosh, who always gives me the proper amount of sympathy...

Sigh.

Pics from the Ballpark

It was a beautiful evening for a 7:00 game.  We took up a whole row, ate hot dogs, cracker jacks, peanuts & cokes, hung out with Ted E. {the mascot} & the home team won. Oh, & there were fireworks.  Enough said, bring on the boys of summer~*
