We have 3 kids. We call them "the Things." That isn't some sign of parental neglect or some such, and it isn't just something I came up with for the blog. Though I probably would have come up with something to call them other than their names to protect their privacy. Its just a happy coincidence that one of the terms of endearment we called them comes in handy in the blogosphere. You see, it happened like this...
My two youngest are 13 months apart, and I started calling them Thing 1 & Thing 2 early on. And it made them giggle. And if you are familiar with The Cat in The Hat, you know why they giggled.

Notice the similarities?
My eldest daughter, who was 5 at the time, got jealous that they had nicknames and she did not, so I expanded the number from the original 2 to 3--
Of course...they don't look like that anymore. That's Thing 1 sitting in the chair...
She's 20 years old now and an honor roll Brit Lit major. With a history minor. Like a good girl.
Thing 2 is perched on the chair with her...
He's 16. And a track star with A's & B's. Except for algebra. Oh, and he has a truck.
Thing 3 is the cutie under the chair...

She's 15. Also an A/B student except for algebra. What can I say, we don't do math. She's a soccer goddess & a photographer to boot. With truck aspirations.

That isn't all of our motley crew. My parents make frequent appearances, as does my mother-in-law, my sister & her family, sometimes my sister-in-law, the Things boyfriends/girlfriends & friendfriends...but you will meet them all in good time~*
