An Irreverent Sunday~*

I LOVE this show with all capital letters.

Its an Irish sitcom that ran from 1995-1998.  I discovered it in the late 90's on BBC America, & have since downloaded every episode from all sorts of suspect & quite possibly nefarious sites.  But it was totally worth adding another page to my FBI file.

From the wiki description:

Set on the remote fictional Craggy Island off Ireland's west coast, the show starred Dermot Morgan as the titular Father Ted Crilly, alongside fellow priests Father Dougal McGuire (Ardal O'Hanlon) and Father Jack Hackett (Frank Kelly). Exiled on the island for various past incidents, the priests live together in the parochial house with their housekeeper Mrs. Doyle (Pauline McLynn).

What the above neglects to mention is that its freakin' hilarious.

It is also incredibly irreverent.  Incredibly irreverent suits this household just fine, but I understand if it is not everyone's cup of tea.
Go on you'll have a cup

If you can't laugh about religion or crisis of faith or what it is to be human or all manner of other things traditionally meant to be taken very seriously, this show is not for you....here lemme give you a snippet so you can see what I mean:

The above is from Tentacles of Doom & it made me laugh until I cried.  If you chuckled, guffawed or otherwise snickered, you need to watch this show.
While the residents of Cecilia adore all the episodes of Father Ted, the most quoted scene is from the first episode in the 2nd season, entitled Hell:

I made rice pudding last night. With cocaine in it.  Oh wait, not cocaine.  God, what am I on about. No, whaddya call 'em....raisins.   *Giggle*  We repeat variations of those lines a lot 'round here.  I said it last night obviously & the Things said it all morning.  And the no bit...being a word God gave us if we don't want any cake.  *Giggle Giggle*

Anyway.

If you like Monty Python type humor, you'll love it.  The hubs & I decided to have a Father Ted marathon whilst I was updating the blog & doing laundry & he was doing class prep for Monday.  Nothing better than watching a show that you know by heart that still makes you laugh.

What are the shows you go to when you are in the mood for a good, soul-tickling giggle?

Here's hoping your weekend was full of everything that makes life glorious-- & lots & lots of laughter~*

  1. Father Ted! It's fab, I used to watch it all the time. Have you got to the one where he explains to Dougal the difference between far away and small? Sheer genius. You have to watch it: go onnn, go onnn, go onnnn!Rx
