Happy to Be June, Musical Edition~*

I 'spose everyone has songs that scream summer whenever you hear them.  Please say you do or this is going to get awkward.

*blank stare*

I recently re-discovered Spotify which pretty much puts every song I can think of at my disposal.  Awesome.  And a little dangerous.  If you don't have it, you really ought to get it.  Spotify.  For all your music awesomeness.  I've been finding & blaring songs I haven't thought of in years.

Sigh.  Good times.

Where was I.  Oh yes, music for summer.  The best part of summer.  The sweet beginning, the sweet June with all its June-ness and promise & not so much heat that I'm sweating all the time.

July is the sweaty month out here.  I hate sweating.  I am not a sweater, in either the physical or metaphysical sense.  I hate when its too hot to move & the ice melts as soon as it hits the glass & life is so lazy even the mosquitoes have given up.  The days when you seriously consider shaving your head because you'd swear your hair follicles are retaining heat.  When you can't put the top down on the convertible because it feels uncomfortably close to being in a convection oven.

I hate sweating.  Did I mention that?

Anyway, this is June.  I can complain about July in...oh...'bout 20 days.  And here are some songs that make me feel like June.  Even in July.

Keeping in mind, of course, that I lean toward the folky-rock spectrum.  And that we just had our local Bluegrass festival.  So I'm kinda in that frame of mind~*

Pour some iced tea {or "sweetee" as they say 'round here}, open the windows & bask in the sun.

Unless you are out of our climate zone & on the verge of winter.  In that case, turn on your day dreams & take a summer stroll~*

This Summer's Been Good from the Start by The Blue Trees

Another Sunny Day by Belle & Sebastian

Put Your Records On by Corinne Bailey Rae

Stay (Wasting Time) by Dave Matthews Band

This final one is a major throwback, but I couldn't help myself.  I was torn between CareyAll I Want on the same album.  If you like folk music, you must have Joni Mitchell's Blue in your collection.  No two ways about it, it is a must have.

  1. I can't see any of the songs you have there, but I love Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince a.k.a. Will Smith. It's a total summer song for me.

  3. Fun, summer music is always the best... so carefree! I've never heard of Spotify before, very cool.

  4. Laughed out loud at at "when you consider shaving your head..." We had a July day today (94 + degrees). And the mosquitos never give up here unless the mosquito truck/crop dusters murders them...they are like really, really awful vampires, biting in broad daylight. But the heat is probably drier here, and there was a breeze, so I didn't melt in sweat.

Sounds like the bluegrass festival inspired you. And I've been loving Corinne Bailey Rae since I heard her, and Joni Mitchell the moment I grew up (when reaching back to my childhood became relevant). I'm very intrigued by your first two selections...new to me.
