Thursday: I Got Bitten by the Blog Bug!

Rachael at Sanderson Smith Story nominated me for the Blog Bug!  A moment here about Rachael-- she's a dear blogger buddy {I've been following her a while now, & no doubt if it weren't for the ocean we'd be close friends offline...stupid ocean}, I adore her corner of the internet & SHE IS HAVING A BABY.  Woot!  You must visit her blog, join up so you don't miss anything AND tell Steve that he really needs to let us know the gender of the baby.  Alright, maybe not that last bit {I'm just dying to know} but seriously, follow her blog, you will not be sorry.

Now on to the Blog Bug Rules:

The Rules

1. If you are given the Blog Bug award, you must answer the questions that follow and the title of the post should be "I Got Bitten by the Blog Bug".

2. You must give the link of where you originally got this award and you can tag as many bloggers as you want. Link their pages on the post and also inform them through comments in their blog.

The Questions

1.  When & why did you start blogging?

I'm a newbie, blog-world speaking.  I started the blog in December of 2011, though I didn't make it a regular thing until the Spring of 2012.  Prior to that I had followed several blogs & liked the idea of documenting web finds, family events & general comings & goings in an interactive environment that traditional journaling just doesn't provide.

2.  What do you love to blog about, and  why?

I'm kinda a love-the-post-I-just-did sort of person lol.  I love posting about crafts that we create, glimpses into our family life, clothes, clothes & more clothes...I guess I like the somewhat personal stuff best...though sharing what I've found online or quotes that I love is also good.  The beauty of a 'for fun' instead of 'for profit' blog, I suppose, is that you only have to post what you love to post about!

3.  How did you get your blog name?

I've always considered my self an academic (i.e. nerd).  I was the sort of kid that was inside reading encyclopedias while other kids were running around outside.  The field I'm in, history, is dominated by men & tends to be rather intense & well, intellectual.  That said, I'm one of those feminists who enjoys wearing make up, if you follow me.  I have a serious clothing & shoe obsession, love thrifting for fashion & have recently got back in to sewing.  So Closet Intellectual seemed to the sum up both of these parts of my personality rather neatly!

4.   What do you think is your best post yet?

Well, like I said before,  I like everything I post, that's why I post it!  I guess, push comes to shove, that my favorite posts have been the ones where I was able to show off Thing 3's {my almost 15 year old daughter's} photography.  I'm really proud of her & the work she does.
As an aside, Things 2 {16 year old son} & 1 {19 year old daughter} are both going to start contributing to the blog too.  Each Thing is going to do one Friday post a month.  Thing 1 is a phenomenal artist & writer & is going to document life as a single college woman in the modern world.  Thing 2 is an athlete & health nut {he is hoping to go in to health education} so he's going to post exercise & diet tips.  Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with!

5.  What is your inspiration for blogging at present?

Present as in now/this moment?  Unquestionably autumn.  I live in the Tennessee mountains-- we sorta got autumn down pat.  Its gorgeous.  I grew up in the San Francisco Bay area, beautiful part of the country but not really known for its foliage.  I've lived all over America {no reason for moving other than "I could"}--the west coast,  the southwest, the southern coast.   I've traveled cross country on every highway possible more times than I can count-- but I've never seen anything as lovely as my Tennessee mountains in autumn.   Its my home & man, I can't explain how truly mind-blowingly gorgeous it is.  Wait...

That gives you a hint of an idea.  Thing 3 is working on some fall photography so I'll post those as she readies them...it is awe-inspiring.

6.  Message for your readers?

Thanks so much for joining me here! I'm not really an overly social person in the real world, & your blogs & comments make me feel part of a greater community in a wonderful way.  It means a lot--

And now the fun part, my nominee!

Rachael's nomination got me to thinking, so in the spirit of transnational blogging-buddies I'm nominating Jo over at Woman in Real Life -- another blogger I think of as a friend & know I'd be hanging out with if only we lived in the same country.  Between Rachael, Jo & myself, I think we could do some serious multi-national thrift store/crafting damage {though you guys would totally have to handle the cooking}.  Plus, it would be a blast to get our kids together-- yes its true, my kids are older, but they are very immature ;)

Check out Jo's blog to see how she answers the Blog Bug & join up while you are there!

Hugs to both of you lovely ladies & happy Thursday to all!

Wow, those mountains are gorgeous! Can't wait to see more photos and tips from your kids. (BTW, I am sure my kids would love your kids. You know how they look up to older kids!)
