1. I had started reading blogs a few years ago & toyed with the idea of starting my own for a while before I opened up The Closet. I loved the sharing of ideas & sense of community in the blogging world. I started with a Pinterest account, then in December of 2011, I finally jumped in!
2. I've always been a bit of a crafter, but when things got busy as the kids got older, my crafting was put on the back burner. And I missed it. I wanted a place to keep track of what I've done & what I'm doing-- as well as guaranteeing I spend at least a little time every week being creative. Being able to inspire and be inspired by other bloggers makes it even more special.
3.I'm not what-cha might call a people-person. Don't misunderstand, I'm not shy in the slightest-- I couldn't teach auditorium classes of 200+ students if I was. I like people en masse, I suppose & tend to be amazingly awkward in most social situations. I also have an overdeveloped sense of personal space. True story-- I was once talking to someone in a classroom-- a close talker, if you follow me. Subconsciously I kept backing up but each time I backed up, the person I was speaking to took a step toward me. I literally didn't realize I was doing it...until I fell over a desk I backed in to. Sigh. Anyway. I thought The Closet would be a great way to meet other people with similar interests in a comfortable way. And I was right, I've met some amazing people. But I guess that's for another list, eh?
4. I think my family is pretty durned amazing. I know, there is a big trend among bloggers to post about how "real" their lives are by talking about how they fight/struggle or are otherwise miserable-- but while not everyday in my life is perfect, a sizable hunk of it really truly is. My kids are phenomenal, funny & thoughtful human beings. My husband is loving, hilarious & I count myself amazingly lucky to get to spend the rest of my life in his company. My parents are wonderful & my best friends. My in-laws are wonderful {and my mother-in-law is a fantastic cook}. I love our stupid little ranch house that is year younger than me and has a basement that floods. I flat out adore my job. Our pets are perfectly pet-like...well, accept Mac the cat who I am fairly certain is a zombie. I wanted a place to show them off & share our adventures & yes, brag a bit.
5. I love clothes & loved reading blogs where other women posted how they styled different pieces. I think it is soooooooo much more inspiring & encouraging to see how real women dress, as opposed to "traditional" fashion magazines with overly-Photoshopped models wearing clothes that the average person could never afford. Same thing for home decoration-- I can't afford an interior designer, but other blogs gave me the inspiration & ideas I was looking for in making our house a home. I love to share in other women's thrifted finds or handmade fashions or home decor & I like the idea of being able to contribute my own sense of style, & maybe even inspire other women like I was {& continue} to be!
It's fun learning the why behind blogging. Your hair! We're twins now!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to read your list of reasons, I think I really only had one which was to archive this special time in my life... But now that I'm in it there's lots more reasons ive discovered along the way :)
ReplyDeleteOh I loved reading this, I nodded my head on agreement with each one! And I am wholeheartedly with you about celebrating the positives in life and not moaning on about the negative.
ReplyDeleteGreat post my dear :)

Hi Tabetha! I think your blog is cute and so is your story of how you got into blogging. I lie that you back away from people when they get too close, my mother in law tends to do that and I always to find ways to escape but it never fails I end up in a never ending hug.
ReplyDeleteAnyway I am stopping by from the thumping thursday hop and following on BlogLovin. Love your blog!
